Good exposition. May I suggest service as a further help in practicing humility. Keep the mindset that he/she comes first, in traffic, in parking spaces, in line at the cashier, little things. Then, the denial of self-idolatry in our private life becomes a way to strengthen our resolve (and recognize our practical failures) to push those service boundaries, rather than a solo spiritual exercise.
